The WDC is a full keyboard Windows PC data collector. Power it on and start up SurvPC by pressing the Carlson icon in the middle of the arrow keys (themselves useful to guide motorized total stations Left and Right, Up and Down to the target when not doing a “Power Search”). The WDC contains a Ublox F9P GPS chip which allows for GPS data collection when cabled to a GPS antenna like the Calian (formerly Tallysman). The Washington DC will “fix” using the Ublox engine but also contains the built-in Carlson Gama RTK engine, which allows for a double Fix, or “Fixed+” certainty when measuring to a point. The Washington DC has long-range Bluetooth and will typically connect to a prism at distances exceeding 1000 feet. It is recommended when using the WDC with the Carlson CRx robots to use the GRZ 122 (hybrid) prism and with Carlson CRT robots to use the P96 (hybrid) prism. These hybrid prisms allow mounting of GPS smart antennas like the Viking on top for GPS-driven robotic total station resections.
The Washington DC has a full 5” screen which is a perfect compromise between significant touchscreen dimension and avoidance of top-heavy weight. But most importantly, the Washington DC brings back the much-loved keyboard, which speeds up entry of point IDs and descriptions, not to mention quick commands like “I” for Inverse and “T” for Traverse when in the SurvPC Map Screen. This saves keystrokes versus pulling down menu options using only a touchscreen. It also “saves” the touchscreen itself, preserving it for pure screen exercises like Zoom Window, selecting and offsetting polylines, etc.
The Washington DC is here–the perfect companion for the Carlson CRx and CRT robots and the BRx7 and Viking GPS units. And don’t forget that the Washington DC is its OWN GPS system, able to serve as a rover on any VRS system, and use the BRx7 or Viking as a base with the Carlson Listen-Listen system. The Washington DC, combined with the Calian antenna puts the weight in the middle of the pole and is one of the most ergonomic and powerful GPS measuring solutions available today, and the only lightweight solution with the highly acclaimed Carlson Gama RTK engine, for greater precision and certainty of fixing in difficult tree cover or building-influenced multipath environments.
